An author will often write about mood. Mood plays a big part in short stories especially in these short stories "A Sound of Thunder" by Ray Bradbury, "A Piece of String" by Guy De Maupassant, and "First Confession" by Frank O'Connor. All these short stories deal with hatred. Even though they all deal with the same mood they are at different levels.

Travis and Eckels are the main characters in "A Sound of Thunder". In the short story you can tell that Travis is wary of Eckels. Eckels is a rich, scared little man who on this occasion ruins the future. Travis is a very paranoid man that doesn't like Eckels from the start. In this short story Eckels and a friend go on a hunting trip that takes him back into the past. Travis tells them the rules. The number one rule is not to step off the path. As they reach their destination Eckels realizes that this trip is too much for him. He gets scared because he didn't know that the dinosaur was going to be that big. Travis tell him that he can go back to the Time Machine. As Eckels turns to run to the Time Machine, the dinosaur sees the movement and charges. Eckels runs and without thinking he runs off the path. When they find him they realize that he stepped off the path. On the way back they hope that nothings changed. They were wrong. They have a different President, a new alphabet, and dinosaurs are still around. All because when he stepped off the path he killed a butterfly.

In the short story "A Piece of String" the main characters are Maitre Hauchecome and Monsieur Malandain. Maitre Hauchecome is an older man who suffers from rheumatism and is a good hater. Monsieur Malandain is an older man who has a harness shop and is also a good hater. In this short story Maitre Hauchecome is walking along a street in Goderville, when he comes across a piece of string. He thinks that he might as well pick it up, it could be useful. As he does he notices that his enemy, Monsieur Malandain, was staring at him. Maitre Hauchecome being ashamed to be in such a position that he made it look like he was looking for something he lost. He then put the piece of string in his pocket. He thought that everything was okay, but everything wasn't. As he was eating a crier told everyone that a pocket book was stolen. Maitre Hauchecome was taken to the Mayor's office because Monsieur Malandain told the mayor that he had seen him pick up the pocket book. This resulted in the whole town thinking that Maitre Hauchecome stole this pocket book when all he did was pick up a piece of string. In the end he ended up dying because gossip consumed him.

Jackie is the main character in the short story "First Confession". Jackie is a little boy that lives in the year 1900's. This is Jackie's first confession. He goes with his older sister, Nora. Nora, being the way she is, was trying to make Jackie afraid of going. So as he walked up to the confessional, being as scared as he was without the help of his sister, went in. Then the trouble starts. After he fell in the confessional and fought with his sister, the priest had a one on one with Jackie at that time he told about the hate he had for his grandmother. After Jakie's first confession he thought it went well. He bragged about how the priest liked him and gave him candy to his sister all the way home.

The differences between the stories is that they each have a different level of hatred. In "A Sound of Thunder" the level of hatred is a one on a scale of one - three, one being the most hatred. It is so high because Eckels changed the future and didn't listen. Travis has so much hatred for Eckels that in the end when the future was changed because of Eckels, Travis kills him. "Stay out of this!" Travis shook his hand away. "This son of a bitch nearly killed us. But it isn't that so much. Hell, no. It's his shoes! Look at them! He ran off the Path. My God, that ruins us! Christ knows how much we'll forfeit! Tens of thousands of dollars of insurance! We guarantee no one leaves the Path. He left it. Oh, the damn fool! I'll have to report to the government. They might revoke our license to travel. God knows what he's done to Time, to History!"(198) In "A Piece of String" hatred plays into this short story because you already know that the two main characters hate each other but by Monsieur Malandain to assume that Maitre Hauchecome took the pocket book brings the hatred to a two. "He took the bit of thin cord from the ground and began to roll it carefully when he noticed Monsieur Malandain, the harness-maker, on the threshold of his door, looking at him. They had heretofore had business together on the subject of a halter, and they were on bad terms, being both good haters."(154) In "First Confession" the hatred is a three because it is a childish hate between Jakie and his grandmother. "And what's a-trouble to you, Jackie" "Father," I said, feeling I might as well get it over while I had him in good humour, "I had it all arranged to kill my grandmother." He seemed a bit shaken by that, all right, because he said nothing for quite a while. "My goodness," he said at last, "that's be a shocking thing to do. What put that into your head?" "Father," I said. feeling very sorry for myself, "she's an awful women."(169)

The similarities between the three short stories are that hatred plays into them well. They all have some sort of hatred and it fits the story well. Some other similarities are that the short stories all have more than one character that is dealing with hatred, instead of character verses self or character verses nature. All of them are character verses character when dealing with hatred.

All three short stories are unique in their own way, but they are also different. Travis hates Eckels for changing the future. Maitre Hauchecome is hated by Monsieur Malandain because they are enemies. Jackie hates his grandmother beacuse she is weird and mean. They each have a different levels of hatred. The hatred in each story makes the stories more interesting to the reader.

Abortion or not abortion, that is the question.

In 2003, worldwide, there was 42 million abortion. On the national level, more than 44,000,000 babies have died to abortion since 1973. North Carolina makes up 2.2 to 2.3 percent of that. On average 71 abortions per day were performed on North Carolina residents in 2002. The highest abortion rate (which is the number of induced abortions per 1,000 women of reproductive age) in 2002 occurred to women ages 20-24. The abortion fraction (which is the number of induced abortions per 1,000 reported pregnancies) was highest among women ages 15-19.

Worldwide there are arguments on if abortions should be legal or not. Abortion should not be legalized because it is the same as murdering a person. Some people believe that it is just a baby its not born or developed yet. The truth is that most of the people who get abortions are a couple weeks along in the pregnancy, which means that that baby that they are getting taken out of them is at least 12 weeks old or more.

There are side effects of abortion. Some of them are abdominal pain and cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and spotting and bleeding. More serious side effects are heavy or persistent bleeding, infection or sepsis, damage to the cervix, scarring of the uterine lining, perforation of the uterus, damage to other organs, and even death.

There are many different ways to have an abortion. Some ways are spontaneous abortion which is a miscarriage, induced abortion which is a regular abortion, medical which is pharmaceutical drugs, surgical which is when they surgically remove the baby, and abortifacient(its a pill).
What the world is trying to say is that abortion are wrong. We understand when rapped people and sexually abused people need abortions but, it is different when you are killing a baby for your own selfish reasons.

Review of a Persuasive Essay

For Love or Money is the name of the article that I chose to do a review on. I found it on teenink.com. The author of this article is Anna H., Buckeye. The main paragraph makes it very clear what the main idea of the essay is. The thesis is that to many people are having vitro fertilization, not having the money to support the family that they create, and getting the government to pay for everything. The main paragraph caught my attention because I really agree with this person and I have thought about the main idea as well. There are 7 paragraphs in this essay. All the paragraphs have something to do with the main idea. The writer uses information and other sources to back up her idea. "The Gosselins, parents of a set of twins and sextuplets, became stars of TLC’s hit show “Jon & Kate Plus 8.”" The writer did not use other sides of the argument. The writer has convinced me of her idea. She could of used one more example. The counter argument that I would use is what if these families really liked of having big families there is nothing wrong with that. I think that the last paragraph was really effective because it ends thing nicely and it ties in with the intro. I didn't find any grammar or spelling mistakes in the essay. I really liked this article because it puts that problem out there for other people to read and get informed.

300

300 was a decent movie. Some things that I didn’t like about the movie was the fact that the blood was really fake. Some things that I knew was historically inaccurate was that only 300 Spartans stood against the Persians when there was really 1000 others that stood and fought by the Spartans in what we call The Last Stand. Some things that I wondered was did the Persians really use Rhinos and Elephants in battle and if they used bombs.

In the documentary “The Last Stand of the 300”, it talked about how the Spartan government agreed to only send 300 of their best soldiers to help Athens. In the movie it says that the government was totally against it.

In the documentary it also talks about how the Persian’s arrows “will block out the sun” and the Spartan General says “Then we will fight in the shade”. I believe this because the Persians had so many archers that the arrows really did “block out the sun”.

King Xerxes in the movie tried to get King Leonidas to join his side. By doing this King Leonidas would not suffer from lost men and he and his kingdom will be saved. King Leonidas wouldn’t accept. In the documentary it doesn’t mention anything connected to this.

My overall opinion of the movie 300 was that it was a decent movie. The documentary was boring and I found that it re-told all the things that I already knew about the event. I think that I will watch historical movies with a more critical eye because I realized that most of those movies add their own things to it to make it better. I think that this is wrong because you should not tell a historical event the way you wanted it to be so that you get more ratings.

FatKat Animation

Things that I didn't know about Fat Kat Industries is that they create shows that I have seen on TV before. Some of them are Skunk Fu and Family Guy. Other things that I didn't know was that they are from New Brunswick and they work in New Brunswick.

The things that I liked about their blogs was the fact they they had videos and pictures rather that a lot of writing. Some other things that I liked was that their blog was cool and was organized. Things that I didn't like was that they had more pictures than videos and I liked the videos more than the pictures.

Some questions that I would like to ask Robbie Anderson are "How did you get into the animation business?" and "Was the animation business your dream or did you just say one day that you wanted to work in animation?" Other questions would be "Do you love your work or do you wish that you could have done something else?" and "How much work is put into working in the animation business?"

How To Lie and Get Away With It

The how to video was a really put together video. It shows the steps and the directions to the steps. It should of had different situations to show that their steps work in more scenarios. Some things that we might use in our video are the captions of things that you will need. We might also use the shots that they used.

How to break a bone.

I bet you probably never broke anything before. Some people like to show off casts, like showing battle scars from breaking something, and getting their cast signed by anybody that will. I would also bet that you are the person standing there watching and thinking that if you broke something you would be noticed. Well its true. I have step by step on how to break a bone.

The first step is planning. You have to figure out what bone you want to break. I would recommend you break something small like you wrist or you could pop your shoulder out. If you want less pain then soak the part of your body you want to break, it softens the bone and it is easier to break.

You might think that your done, that you can go out and break something but you can't, your not done yet your only on step two. You also have to make it look like a accident. You have to have a witnesses. You have to find out how you want to break said bone. You have to find a good way to get into a situation that would involve you breaking the bone. I would advise you not to tell the witnesses, if your using friends, what you are planning to do. The reason for this is to reduce conflict like them trying to talk you out of it or if they plan on telling someone, like your mom, that would suck.

Step three you have to find a good place to break the bone. You have to find a place that will be the perfect environment for your plan. I would suggest that if you were to use a bike, then find a sandy hill and go down with no brakes. That's what I did and I broke my wrist. (I wasn't trying to.) If you plan on "Accidentally" running into a wall after something, lets say a ball, don't, you could possibly pop your elbow out like I did.(I didn't do it on purpose.) Lets just say that the pain wasn't all hugs and kisses by mom and it goes away.

Step four is the most simple step of them all. Go out and break the bone. You may be thinking that this is the most stupid thing you have ever done and it probably is but that's OK. Just make sure that you can get to the hospital as fast as you can. The longer you wait the more pain.

Now that you have accomplished what you aimed for, you can now show off your cast, show any battle scars, and get the cast signed by anybody that will.

The Chase

Today was a normal day expect for one thing. As I was making my way out the door my dog followed. I threw his ball without looking because I didn't think that anyone was around, no one ever is. I was on my way to get my brand new, bright red wagon. Suddenly I heard a deafening yell. I was so scared that I jumped into the garbage can for protection. As I was peaking out of the garbage I saw the biggest person I ever saw. As a boy my scream wasn't that high pitched but as I saw him look at me with those big saucers for eyes, I screamed the most high pitched scream I could.

I was such a girl as I ran for the ti pi that was in my yard and hide in the corner. As I hear his monstrous footsteps coming toward me I ran to the shed. He saw, I need to run. I was running as fast as my 10 year old legs could go. I seen in movies that when your being chased you need to move around not stay in a straight line. I was wondering as I jumped a car and flailing my arms about if I looked like a moron but, I then thought that some people would do the same thing if they put in the same situation.

I jumped over Mr. Black's back, I realize that the man that was chasing me was trying to reach out and grab me. I then thought of an easy way to lose him. Mrs. White was washing her car so went around her car and she distracted him for a while. I saw a set of trees, I thought that maybe I could lose him there. As I wove in and out of the trees, he was getting closer and closer.

I jumped the fence into Mr. and Mrs. Peters backyard. I thought that they might be home so ran for the front door. I was knocking so hard that my hand started to hurt really bad. I then decided that no one was home. I saw him coming so I ran for the fence and jumped it again. I saw my chance to slow him down, I was going towards a pole and I stopped went around it and kicked him in the shins and ran faster than before. I jumped over the wheelbarrow and the bird bath and ducked in the moving van that was there. I seen Mrs. Black relaxing on her lawn chair, I jumped over her and climbed the ladder that was up against my shed.

He was coming and coming fast. I ran along the fence to the tree. I climbed up high enough that he couldn't reach me. He looked at me with the big eyes and said "Just you wait, you can't stay up there forever." As he was walking away I thought I saw him laughing. When I knew he was a safe distance away I got down from the tree and made a run for it.

I ran and jumped into Billy's play pin. I round the corner and jumped over the next door neighbor's gardener that was mowing the lawn. I seen you guys so I jumped the fence and climbed the dog house and duck and rolled over to you guys. Thats what happened.

Movie Review

The Uninvited movie review tells about the movie without giving away the ending. It describes the story's plot well and yet doesn't give too much away. It tells of the main characters and the where the story takes place.

I really liked this movie review because I want to see it and it makes me want to see it more now that I read it. This movie seems like a great film. It seems very creepy and suspenseful. It will be a great film.

The write for freedom

Freedom Writers a film that came out in 2007 was directed by Richard LaGravenese. It is a good film. The cast included Hilary Swank as Erin Gruwell, Scott Glenn as Steve Gruwell, Patrick Dempsey as Scott Casey, Imelda Staunton as Margaret Campbell.

This is a movie about a Erin Gruwell, played by Hilary Swank, gets a job at Woodrow Wilson Classical High School in Long Beach, California. She thinks that she is going to like her students but as the the first day comes along she realizes that her students are troubled and abandoned. Erin then realizes that she has the opportunity to change that. Richard LaGravenese has directed other great films. P.S I love you is a romantic film, compared to Freedom Writers which is a docudrama, the films are completely different. P.S I love you has a lot of romance, sadness, and humor. Freedom Writers has a lot of sadness, humor, and reality.

The actors in Freedom Writers were very good actors for being young and most of them were just new to the whole acting business. The script was great and it was well written. The music was excellent for the movie because the music needed to influence the actors and actress and it did that perfectly. The message is clear. Fight for what you want, get your message out there and things will change.

Memory Lane

As I was walking down the steps with my mail, I realized that it was a beautiful summers day. How the sun shone just right and there was just the right amount of clouds. I trip over a step; mail goes flying like a gale of wind. As I’m gathering my thoughts of what just happened, a tall man is helping me up. When I finally look up at the man who helped me, my heart actually stopped, his eyes were an ice blue, his hair was a deep brown and his facial features were perfect. As he was helping me up I noticed how his strong features were gentle yet defined. I thought he was just going to help me up and leave like other guys would do but as I was getting my mail his strong manly hands were helping too. There was one piece of mail left as I had my hands on it his hands were on mine, for a split second our eyes met.

“Sarah, Sarah are you with us?” I then realized that the whole time I was in a flashback, Aiden was down on one knee purposing. “I’m here, just thinking of how we met.” “Well what’s your answer?” Aiden asked pleadingly. “My feelings for you hasn’t changed since the first day that I met you, in fact they are stronger. I love you so much. I do, I will marry you.” After I said this he put the ring on my finger and I felt his strong arms around my waist, pick me up and swirl me around. As our lips met I realized that I had made the right choice ever since the day that I met him.
